On December 1st 1992, Renault announced the near end of production of the Renault 4 in the French journal Libération in a series of eight full-page advertisements showing characteristic black and white photographs of the Renault 4 by Thierry des Ouches, and a voucher for ordering one of the last quatrelles. The series was also published by Publicis on heavy quality paper This one contains two more photographs, and had a different front line.
This would translate into something like: 'Of 8 million Renault 4 produced, only a few hundred remain to be sold. On december 31st, its career will stop. It took progress 31 years to catch up. Even if the "4L" isn't ready yet to disappear from our roads, it would be unfair not to pay it honors. Libération, daily newspaper devoted to everything which moves society, thought that it was right to say bye-bye by means of a special campaign. In it, on the first of december its vagabond life will be retraced by 8 of the 10 advertisements from this portfolio. They will make us aware, if necessary, that the "4L" marked its time.'
